If anyone’s wondering why I didn’t recommend enabling encryption in the base tutorial, I do have a few reasons!
Chiefly, I don’t want people losing their data – there’s a real chance of that when they’re new to the concept.
Then there’s the fact that it adds a solid 20 seconds to the boot process!
Do I use it personally on my desktop? Yep. Just not comfortable recommending it to beginners.
We’re talking about Full Disk Encryption, by the way.
I’ve never tried Home Folder Encryption and I do not want to. It sounds cursed.
